Nathan’s Coaching Philosophy is similar to a life philosophy: Use the time we are given to it’s highest potential. As a Father of 5 children, Husband, top level professional cyclist, and director of Vision Cycling, Nathan understands how to best balance your time with performance based goals no matter what level you are at in your sport. Nathan’s focus is on the cycling discipline, but also coaches athletes in a wide array of endurance disciplines, from Mountain Biking, XC Skiing, to Road Racing. Nathan has a focused background in Exercise Physiology within his Bachelor’s degree, self coached to a top Professional level with 6 years experience in Pro Ranks, as well as time spent learning from top level coaches and pro athletes from around the World. Keith RiegeDiscipline: XC Mountain Bike Michigan CX State Champion Do you have racing goals? Hire a coach! I began working with Nathan at the start of May 2014. I had been considering a coach this year as I got into the Chequamegon 40 and that set the stage for the infamous Mid-West Triple Crown, Ore 2 Shore, Chequamegon 40 and Iceman and I wanted to do well at all 3 and try to make the podium. Nathan helped me get out of my training rut doing the same things every year and helped me look at my training a bit differently. It's awesome to look at the weeks training schedule he would put together and all I had to do was go out and get it done, no wondering what kind of ride should I do today. There was a plan and all I had to do was follow it. Nathan would adjust things each week based on his evaluation of many training metrics and put together the next week. Nathan also helped me with understanding training with a power meter. If you don't have one, get one! I just did the workouts and put my trust in Nathan getting me there for each of my "A" races. I took 10minutes off my best time at Ore 2 Shore and placed 4th. Not the podium but I rode very well and rode a PR so I am happy with that. Race #2 Nathan again had me ready for the Cheq 40, a race I have never done and I placed 5th. The last big one for this season was the Iceman and again Nathan had me ready. The weather and course conditions where the worse the race had ever seen in 25 years and it was the training that helped me achieve my best place 2nd and only 1:26 off the top step which is the closest to first I have come and one of the fastest overall times of the day. During the season I also won two 50 mile dirt road races, placed 2nd in a 50 mile mountain bike marathon race and I just won the MI State Cycle Cross Championships. Not bad for a 54 year old putting in top times at the biggest races. Thank You Nathan. I appreciate all your work, advice and friendship throughout the season, it was a good one and we had a few laughs along the way.
Steve LipskiDiscipline: XC Mountain Bike I started working with Nathan in the Fall of 2013 with goals to do well in Citizen/Cat3 class in the Wisconsin Off Road Series. We reached bypassed this goal early on and I ended up winning the Sport/Cat 2 series age group. What a great time I had this year, one I'll never forget. It all came down to the last race in Sheboygan as well as the last lap. I was in second in series points for Sport and chasing the series point leader. I could see he was tiring so I made my move, oh what a feeling it was to win, it’s all about the training, “Life in the lead”. Nathan's training program has really helped me, I could not of done this on my own. It was awesome having a Pro rider showing me how to train, there is so much more to training than I had thought previously. Also, knowing someone is holding me accountable, looking at all my rides, it just makes me try harder & harder. This in turn makes me go faster! A winning combination.
Will EdwardsDiscipline: Cross Country Skiing Nate has helped me improve my race results dramatically. I moved from 78th place to 10th place in my age group at the Birkie, ( I did move up an age group but there was significant improvement relative to skiers around me). Nate is particularly good at getting the most out of training hours and helping me to make smart training choices. Also, he is great at knowing how to help an athlete to peak at the right time. In addition, he is able to adjust the training schedule around the work-a-day issues that we all face such as job or family commitments.
